Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill: Deficit, AI Power Grab, and Congressional Failure

President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a 1,100-page juggernaut passed by the House on May 22, 2025, showcases his bold economic vision but comes with serious costs. The Congressional Budget Office projects it will balloon the deficit by $3.8 trillion over a decade, with some estimates hitting $5.3 trillion. While Trump’s tax cut extensions shield millions from a 22% tax hike, fueling growth, this borrowing could spike interest rates, quietly hitting everyday Americans with pricier mortgages and loans. Still, Trump’s supporters argue this is a necessary trade-off for prosperity.
Tucked away on page 276, the bill hands AI regulation solely to the federal government, blocking states for ten years. This is a Trump-driven masterstroke to streamline innovation and keep America leading in AI, despite 59% of voters opposing it for curbing local protections. Shockingly, most Congress members didn’t even know this provision existed, exposing an outrageous failure to read bills. This isn’t just negligence—it’s a betrayal of the public. Congress members must read every page of legislation thoroughly. If they can’t handle the workload, they have no business voting. Period.
Trump’s vision deserves better than blind votes on massive bills. Congress should switch to single-issue legislation to ensure transparency and accountability. Lawmakers who skip reading bills are failing Americans and undermining Trump’s agenda. They need to step up or step out.
