US Marshals arrest man accused of hitting NYPD officer in Bronx hit‑and‑run

Federal marshals and NYPD officers arrested 31‑year‑old Eduardo Paulino early Monday after he was identified as the driver who struck a police officer during a hit‑and‑run in the South Bronx on Saturday night.

Police had responded to a 311 call at about 7:20 p.m. reporting a large crowd and loud music near the intersection of Garrison Avenue and Whittier Street. As officers arrived, a man entered a white Honda SUV and fled, striking an officer in the left leg as the vehicle sped away.

The injured officer was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery, according to authorities.

Investigators later linked the vehicle to Paulino, who also has a prior assault arrest from the previous month. He was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in a coordinated effort with the NYPD and charged with attempted murder of a police officer, assault, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and disorderly conduct.

“There is nowhere to hide in New York for individuals who choose violence against law enforcement,” said U.S. Marshal Ricky J. Patel. “We promised a swift and decisive capture, and through the combined, relentless efforts of the U.S. Marshals and our partners, we delivered.”

Police have not released a detailed physical description of Paulino, but the arrest follows an intensive search that kept the suspect on the lam through the evening and into Monday morning.

The incident has renewed public discussion about traffic enforcement and officer safety during large, spontaneous gatherings. City officials emphasize that rapid response and inter‑agency cooperation are essential to protect both residents and first‑responders in densely populated neighborhoods.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Saturday night event, including the exact sequence that led the driver to target the officer. No additional injuries were reported beyond the officer’s leg wound.

The case remains open for any further charges that may arise as the investigation proceeds.
