May 6 2026 – Los Angeles Stabbing: Actor James Handy Killed
On the morning of June 5th, 2026, 81-year-old actor James Handy was found stabbed in the chest outside his home in Tarzana, Los Angeles.
Handy had appeared in films such as Jumanji and the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, and his death has sent shockwaves through the film community.
Police responded to a 911 call that started with a statement: "I am the son of the man, I just killed the man of sin". Officers discovered Handy unconscious in the front yard, with multiple stab wounds. He was transported to a hospital but later pronounced dead.
The suspect is 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, the son of Handy's girlfriend. Gledhill, who lives with his mother at the same address, identified himself to officers and has been booked on a single count of murder. Bail was set at $2 million and a special allegation of use of a deadly weapon has been filed, which could extend a potential prison term. No attorney has yet been confirmed for Gledhill.
Handy was born in New York and built a career as a character actor over six decades, appearing in television series including NCIS: Los Angeles, The Closer, and Cold Case. His most recent role was that of bartender Jimmy in Top Gun: Maverick.
Industry colleagues praised him as a humble and talented performer.
Police officials said the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no immediate danger to the public. Courts later charged Gledhill with murder and a special allegation of using a deadly weapon. Yet, the legal proceedings have just begun and the family has expressed a need for representation.
The community is mourning a beloved actor whose work spanned film, television, and stage. Fellow actors and entertainment professionals are expressing their condolences and sharing memories of Handy's professionalism and kindness. Fans of his last film role are urging supporters to show solidarity with his family during this tragic time.
