June 2 , 2026: IDF Neutralizes Key Hamas Operative Involved in 2023 Oct. 7 Attacks
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) conducted a precision airstrike on the early hours of June 2, 2026, eliminating Yousif Ayesh Awad Ramadan, the deputy commander of a Hamas Nukhba terrorist cell. Ramadan was listed as a key participant in the Oct. 7 attacks that led to the abduction of Israeli soldiers and civilians, including Hersh Goldberg‑Polin, Eliya Cohen, Alon Ohel and Or Levy.
According to the IDF, the strike was carried out with advanced munitions and aerial surveillance. The forces took steps to mitigate collateral damage to civilians, ensuring the operation adhered to precise targeting protocols.
Ramadan’s death follows a series of targeted operations. On May 16, the IDF downed two Hamas militants—Hamer Iyad Muhammad Almatouk and Khaled Salem Joudeh—in separate strikes in the northern Gaza Strip. Earlier that month, the IDF neutralized Hamas military leader Izz ad‑Din al‑Haddad, a chief perpetrator of the Oct. 7 assault.
These actions are part of Israel’s continued military response to Hamas’ offensive attacks. While the ceasefire has held since last October, the IDF maintains that systematic elimination of high‑value targets is essential to defending Israeli citizens and preventing future incursions.
The IDF’s statements emphasize the necessity of these precise strikes and the broader context of the ongoing conflict. Officials highlighted that Hamas’ leadership remains highly active in Gaza, necessitating continued vigilance from IDF forces to safeguard Israeli interests.
