JT Tablet Donation Boosts Music Access for Jersey’s Youth
JT Donation Empowers Music Education in Jersey
On 28 June 2026 the telecom company JT announced a donation of four tablet computers to Music in Action, a charity that offers musical‑education programmes for children from low‑income families on the island of Jersey. The devices are intended to enhance digital access to music lessons, allowing young learners to store, share and interact with musical scores and theory materials during class.
Music in Action supports roughly 90 children whose families receive income support. The charity’s bursary scheme already provides specialist instrumental tuition, small‑group learning, performance opportunities and practice clubs. By adding tablets, the programme can bring a more interactive, engaging approach to learning. Students can view sheet music on screen, explore theory apps and record practice sessions, which helps them build confidence and develop musical skills in a modern, tech‑savvy environment.
Naomi Mews, the charity’s treasurer, highlighted that the tablets will “remove barriers for the children we support.” She explained that music has the power to transform confidence, wellbeing and outlook, yet not every family can afford the tools needed for contemporary lessons. The new technology levels the playing field, making music education more inclusive.
From JT’s perspective, the donation aligns with its commitment to using technology for positive community impact. Laura Belo, the company’s head of human resources, said that supporting Music in Action “demonstrates how digital tools can be a force for good,” adding that the tablets will foster creativity, confidence and lifelong learning for the students.
The partnership underscores how corporate social responsibility can intersect with education and the arts. By equipping young musicians with modern devices, JT helps nurture talent, encourage personal development and strengthen the cultural fabric of Jersey. The initiative serves as a model for how technology firms can support local initiatives that enrich lives and build stronger, more vibrant communities.
As the tablets roll out, Music in Action plans to integrate them into regular lessons and after‑school practice clubs. The charity expects the digital boost to increase student engagement, broaden access to a wider range of musical repertoire and ultimately help more children experience the joy of music‑making.
Overall, the donation marks a significant step toward removing socioeconomic barriers in music education, reinforcing the belief that everyone—regardless of background—should have the opportunity to explore, learn and thrive through music.
