FBI Places Minnesota Food Vendor on Most Wanted List Over $5 Million Child Nutrition Fraud

FBI Adds Minnesota Food Vendor to Most Wanted List

Federal investigators have placed Fahad Mohamed Nur, the owner of The Produce LLC, on the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters list. Nur is accused of diverting more than five million dollars that were intended to feed children through the federal Child Nutrition Program during the COVID‑19 pandemic.

The case stems from the Feeding Our Future scheme, a large‑scale fraud that exploited pandemic‑era changes to federal nutrition assistance. Prosecutors allege that Nur submitted false invoices for food that was never delivered, allowing The Produce LLC to claim reimbursements that should have covered meals for children in need.

Nur was charged in 2022 with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering. After the indictment, he fled the United States in January 2022 and is believed to have returned to Somalia, where he has familial ties. A federal arrest warrant was issued on September 13, 2022, and a reward of up to $150,000 is offered for information leading to his capture.

The fraud is part of a broader investigation that has identified more than 40 defendants and recovered roughly $250 million in misappropriated funds. Federal authorities warn that the scheme involved false meal counts, fabricated attendance rosters, shell companies and rapid movement of money through multiple accounts.

Law enforcement agencies continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activity related to the child nutrition programs. Tips can be submitted through the FBI tip portal, local FBI offices, or U.S. embassies abroad.

The misappropriated funds could have covered meals for thousands of children across Minnesota, reducing hunger and supporting nutrition during school closures. By recovering these funds and pursuing criminal charges, authorities aim to restore trust in the Child Nutrition Program and deter future fraud.

Nur’s inclusion on the Most Wanted list underscores the seriousness with which the government treats fraud that harms vulnerable children. The ongoing investigation serves as a reminder that public funds designed to protect public health and education must be safeguarded against deception.
