Atlanta Dream forced to host WNBA Finals games at 3,500‑seat arena

The Atlanta Dream will host Games 3, 4 and a possible Game 6 of the 2026 WNBA Finals at the 3,500‑seat Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia, after State Farm Arena was booked for an Atlanta Hawks home opener and a concert by singer Sombr.

The decision reduces the championship’s available seating from more than 17,000 at State Farm to a space roughly the size of a high school gym, limiting the number of fans who can attend each game.

State Farm Arena, which hosted six regular‑season Dream games and three postseason contests this year, is occupied on Oct. 22 for the Sombr concert, on Oct. 24 for the Hawks‑Rockets matchup, and on Oct. 29 for the Hawks‑Cavaliers game, preventing the league from using the larger venue for the Finals.

“This is an exciting next chapter for the Atlanta Dream, and a direct reflection of the exciting style of play that is Dream basketball, the passion of our fans and the incredible growth of this franchise,” said Morgan Shaw Parker, president and COO of the Dream.

Efforts to relocate the games to other larger venues in the metro area also fell short. The Dream explored Gas South Arena, which can hold up to 13,000 spectators, and Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion, with about 8,600 seats, but both options proved unavailable.

Angel Reese, the team’s star forward, highlighted the situation as the league prepared for the Finals on Oct. 22, Oct. 24 and Oct. 29, underscoring the contrast between the small gym‑like setting and the franchise’s recent announcement of a multi‑year agreement to move all home games to State Farm Arena beginning in 2027.

Despite the constrained venue, the Dream remain poised to compete against the Golden State Valkyries, with the first of the three scheduled Finals games set for Oct. 22 at Gateway Center Arena.

Looking ahead, the franchise hopes the 2027 move to State Farm Arena will provide a larger stage for future postseason play, while fans and the league monitor how the current arena limitation impacts attendance and broadcast viewership for the remainder of the series.
