8 Brigade launches chapel project to boost spiritual welfare and discipline
On 10 September 2026, the Kenya Defence Forces’ 8 Brigade laid the foundation stone for a new chapel at Karare Barracks, signaling a major push to enhance spiritual welfare, discipline and unit cohesion among its personnel.
The ceremony was led by Brigade Commander Brigadier E. W. Banda and attended by officers, service members and chaplaincy officials including Lieutenant Colonel Father Korir, Major Abdalla (Imam) and Reverend Major Dzivo. Speakers linked spiritual guidance to personal accountability, moral integrity and strict adherence to the military code of conduct.
Reverend Major Dzivo warned troops against drug and substance abuse, excessive alcohol consumption, internet addiction and gambling, urging sound judgement and prudent financial management. Major Abdalla highlighted individual responsibility and moral integrity, while Father Korir emphasized the Oath of Allegiance, political neutrality, obedience to lawful orders and ongoing professional development.
Lieutenant Colonel C. C. Omari of the 23 Military Intelligence Battalion praised the chapel project and encouraged personnel to translate the spiritual and professional counsel into daily responsible conduct.
In a traditional Baraza, Brigadier Banda reaffirmed his commitment to welfare and professional excellence, citing the military principle of “Selection and Maintenance of Aim.” He called for disciplined, mission‑oriented troops and continuous skills development as essential to operational effectiveness.
The Brigade commander also stressed prudent financial management, teamwork, mutual support and unit cohesion as foundations of a resilient military community, urging troops to prioritise mental health, physical fitness and personal wellbeing.
Tree‑planting activities were incorporated within the mosque and church grounds, promoting environmental stewardship and collective responsibility for natural resources.
The event concluded with an interfaith fellowship that brought together Roman Catholic, Anglican and Muslim personnel, providing a platform for spiritual reflection, mutual understanding and comradeship across religious traditions.
The chapel project and associated interfaith activities underscore 8 Brigade’s effort to integrate spiritual welfare, ethical leadership and personnel development into everyday military life, reinforcing a cohesive, resilient and mission‑ready force.
