After Tuesday’s primaries, President Trump has now officially won a majority of the delegates available and will win the Republican nomination.
The challenges to Trump’s candidacy from the right were few. Joe Walsh and Mark Sanford both threw their hats in the ring but realized quickly how hard it is to unseat a sitting President enjoying over 90% approval within his own party…
The only legitimate challenger left in the race was Bill Weld, the former Governor of Massachusetts.
Weld understood weeks ago that he would never win the nomination, but is hoping that he can continue to draw Republicans away from the President.
“It has been said that, if Trump loses 3 to 4 percent of traditional Republican voters, he can’t be reelected,” Weld explained.
Weld is a special kind of Republican. He is a so-called Conservative who believes the country is best served by electing a liberal. In other words, he is an idiot.
Even after Trump officially secured the nomination, Weld apparently is staying in the race in the hopes of somehow ‘kneecapping’ the President.
In Florida’s primary, for example, President Trump won 93.8% of the vote (1,160,192). Weld received just 3.2% of the vote (39,197 votes) and Walsh, despite dropping out, received 2.1% (25,364).
