Their departure is a welcome turn of events, perhaps signaling the beginning of a long-overdue reckoning for this liberal juggernaut.
For nearly two decades, Act Blue has fueled Democratic campaigns, amassing over $16 billion since 2004 to support progressive causes and candidates. Yet recent developments expose deep cracks. Union letters to the board have criticized leadership as “unsettling” and “disturbing,” while a remaining attorney alleged retaliation, citing revoked email and messaging access. Such turmoil suggests an organization struggling to maintain control, and conservatives see it as validation of their skepticism.
Republicans have long scrutinized Act Blue, pointing to potential improprieties like “smurfing”—dividing large donations into smaller ones to skirt regulations—and lax security measures that may have enabled questionable contributions.
